Return to the Brandywine

One snowy autumn day in Maine my wife and I booked two float sessions at a lovely place called “Float Harder” here in Portland. We were working particularly hard at our business Anchor Wellness during that time and we needed to charge our batteries. I had just found a great playlist on Spotify called “Chill Bluegrass Instrumental”, and I was really excited to give it a listen with my session. The string music transported me to rolling wheat plains, mountains and open skies. It was floating in this session when I first came across this song. “Return to the Brandywine”. Sometimes I come across a song that stops me in my tracks. This is one of those tunes.

I did some research when I got home, bought the sheet music from Russ Barenberg’s website. My mandolin/guitar teacher Matt Shipman was extremely helpful in helping me figure out the chords (thanks Matt).

My wife’s dad Doug was visiting us from Scotland for the New Year this week and I got a chance to record this tune with him on guitar.

I hope you enjoy this song and have a happy new year!
